Brake levers can be prone to damage and may need replacement. There are two main types of brake levers for cable-actuated and hydraulic systems. Cable-actuated brakes are divided into two types, short pull and long pull. Short pull is designed to work with caliper brakes while long pull is designed to work with cantilever brakes such as v-brakes. Brake levers for hydraulic disc brake systems operate using oil-filled hoses. Disc brake levers contain the reservoir which holds the additional oil needed to operate the system.
