About Aqua Blue Sport
The fruit of a long-term vision to compete on the highest stage of world sport with a team based on a unique, self-sustained funding model, Aqua Blue Sport is Ireland’s first UCI Professional Continental cycling team, launched in January 2017.
The brainchild of Cork-born businessman Rick Delaney, Aqua Blue Sport began the 2017 season with a roster of 16 riders and a focused race programme, and the clear objective of competing from the outset.
I have a dream to be standing and celebrating an Irish-backed team roll down the Champs Elysees after three action packed weeks of the Tour De France. To realise that dream, our adventure begins - Rick Delaney
With a team roster drawn from World Tour-level riders as well as young, rising professionals, the Aqua Blue Sport squad features sprinting firepower, climbing prowess and proven GC contenders for a strength in depth that will deliver results from day one.
Behind the squad stands a backroom team with decades of experience in high performance sport of all disciplines, including World Tour cycling.
And behind both squad and team lies a vision – to build a strong, focused, competitive team with an ethos of open communication and the pursuit of common goals, backed by a funding model that allows for the execution of a long-term strategic plan.
By removing the financial insecurity so often associated with cycling teams, my hope is to create a team environment that will see athletes thrive, and in turn positively impact on performances - Rick Delaney
We want to try to be the best, not just participate. We’ll have 16 good, like minded riders who’ll ride a single program; the plan is to make them brilliant. - Rick Delaney
